IVF - In Vitro Fertilization

IVF – In Vitro Fertilization

IVF – In Vitro Fertilization (fertilization outside the woman´s body) is a basic method of assisted reproduction.

The sperm which has been prepared in a laboratory in advance is added to eggs which have been removed from ovaries after hormonal stimulation. Male and female germs cells are combined in a fluid medium inside a special cultivation dish. Under satisfactory incubation circumstances the dish is then placed into a cultivation box.
This method is recommended when spermcount quality is within the norm and the figures correspond to a spermcount of a healthy fertile man. One of the most important criteria is the shape of sperm. If the spermogram results show abnormalities, the ICSI method is recommended to avoid injecting unhealthy sperm into egg and thus minimize the risk of unhealthy embryo.

Reasons for IVF

  • sperm quality within the norm
  • sufficient number of eggs to be fertilized (6 and more)
  • woman  at the age of 35 or younger
